Two very different projects demonstrate the versatility of our Liebherr 81K.1 self-erecting tower cranes, with one supporting the construction of a new industrial plant at Longcliffe Quarry, Matlock and another working on a residential development in central Glasgow.
Although both projects use the same crane model, their different site requirements called for very different configurations, highlighting one of the key advantages of the Liebherr 81K.1.
Reaching New Heights at Longcliffe Quarry
At Longcliffe Quarry, our Liebherr 81K.1 was erected with its full complement of six mast sections, providing an impressive 40-metre height under hook to support the construction of a new industrial plant.
As the photograph shows, the crane stands alongside a substantial steel-framed structure, with its elevated working height allowing lifting operations to be carried out across the developing plant.
Industrial construction projects of this nature require lifting equipment capable of reaching considerable heights while working around complex steelwork, platforms and other structures. The 81K.1 provides an effective solution, combining the benefits of a self-erecting tower crane with the height and reach needed for demanding industrial applications.
A Different Configuration for Central Glasgow
Meanwhile, in central Glasgow, another Liebherr 81K.1 is supporting the construction of new accommodation.
For this project, the crane was configured with just one additional mast section, providing a 28-metre height under hook, together with a shortened 31-metre jib.
This more compact configuration was selected to allow the crane to work alongside a second tower crane on the development.
Operating multiple tower cranes on the same construction site requires careful planning and coordination, particularly where their working areas may overlap. Selecting appropriate mast heights and jib lengths helps accommodate the specific requirements and restrictions of each site.
The Glasgow installation demonstrates how the 81K.1 can be adapted to suit urban construction projects where available space and surrounding structures influence crane selection.
The Versatility of the Liebherr 81K.1
One of the main advantages of the Liebherr 81K.1 self-erecting tower crane is its ability to operate in different configurations, allowing mast height and jib length to be selected according to the lifting requirements of each project.
Whether supporting the construction of a large industrial plant or working within a busy city-centre development, the crane provides an adaptable lifting solution for a wide range of applications.
These two projects demonstrate how Sparrow Crane Hire can provide the appropriate tower crane configuration for very different working environments, from industrial construction sites to residential developments.
Another example of the versatility of our self-erecting tower crane fleet, supporting construction projects across the UK.
